From Seattle to Denver..

After a wonderful night courtesy of Lia, which you’ll read about after we air on her show, we started our 20 hour trek to Denver. We decided to do 10 hours each day, which didn’t seem too bad. Jeb had a friend visiting Big Sky, Montana that we were going to stay with.

Everything was going smoothly until we started to hit road work. These people are complete idiots. They let one side go for 10 minutes, regardless of how many cars, and then let the other side go 10 minutes. So one side of traffic is packed, while 3 cars coming the other direction pass them in the whole 10 minute period. It made no sense at all. It turned our 10 hour trip into a 12 hour trip.

When we got to Montana the family we were staying with was out eating dinner, so Jeb and I had some time to kill. We decided to take an adventure. A Taiwanese worker at the hotel told us where we could hang out and told us she would take us on a short cut because her housing was near there. Before we knew it we were wondering through the woods with her and one flashlight. We both fell over at least three stumps and logs. A guy creeped up on us with his flashlight aiming at the ground and I thought we were goners. He wouldn’t answer when we tried to talk to him. I wasn’t about to die in the Montana woods.

We made it out of the woods safely, but on our way home without a guide we, of course, got lost. After a 20 minute walk, we found our way thanks to a 13 year old who told us we were standing right in front of what we were looking for. We had a rough night of sleep and headed out early in the morning.

The next day was miserable. It was the same type of roadwork. Morons. And travelling through Wyoming there are no radio stations. Not a single one. We sporadically got talk radio which talked about the same things over and over again. We tried AM music that sounded like someone recorded it from a real radio station and played it on a boom box with only one working speaker. We didn’t have our iPod’s charged, so it was pretty bad.

We did get something cool out of our journey, though. Little British GPS Jill took us through the Yellowstone National Park. We got to see bald eagles, a family of moose, and a coyote. But the coolest things we got to see, and also the most unexpected, were the geysers and hot springs. They are random holes in the ground that explode streams of water and steam into the air. It is one of the coolest things we’ve seen so far. We got to see Old Faithful, which was also really crazy. They had paint pots bubbling and steaming red rocks. It looked so fake but it was real. We have a video that we will be posting of one of the geysers.

Sadly, the forests there have a lot of fire damage. We got to see some elk rubs, too. Jeb was really excited about them, haha. A lot of people said they got to see herds of bison as well. We weren’t as lucky. You should definitely check out Yellowstone if you ever get the chance. We would’ve loved to camp there but we didn’t have time.

We also went through Grand Teton which was beautiful as well.

We made it to Denver after over 13 hours. I didn’t think we were ever going to make it, but we did. We have a lot of interesting stories coming from Denver. So come back and comment, haha.

You know how bad it could be in the back woods of Appalachia, at night, with "the locals"; yet you go traipsing through the forest, in the dark, with some crazy motel worker, trusting her and her one flashlight, IN NOWHERE MONTANA?!?!?!
At least you're still alive, possibly in one piece.
Anyway, it's been great listening to you guys on the radio here in Johnstown. Safe journey home.
